Going Mobile
Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 12:59PM Over the past few weeks I have been somewhat disconnected from my networked computers, and had to rely on my iPhone to stay connected.
The iPhone allowed me to read and respond to both my personal and work email, stay updated on twitter, stay updated on news and scores, and stay updated on all my FeedDemon RSS feeds.
I use MIT's mobile page a lot when I am traveling across campus, however I had not used my iPhone to really stay connected with everything until the last few weeks. I went to mobile.boston.com and espn.com a lot, and I Iove how ESPN recognizes that I am on a mobile device and automatically moves me to the ESPN Mobile page. Another nice feature about ESPN is their mobile scoreboard. No need to keep hitting refresh here, the mobile scoreboard keeps refreshing thru all the NFL scores. This is a feature that more newspapers and content providers could use to refresh their most recent content and keep that content in front of users.
All news and media sites should consider offering a mobile page. There are a lot of iPhones in use, however there are just as many Blackberry's and soon the Android phone will gain some real market share and compete with both the iPhone and the Blackberry. That means that more and more folks will be looking for content from their mobile devices, and if you are delivering content over the Internet, you need to consider your mobile presence.
